Dementia UK

Why have I chose to support Dementia UK?

All charities deserve as much support and financial donations as possible, but it is hard to help all charities. Therefore I have chosen to support a charity that recently has come to light due to personal experience.

My grandad suffers with Dementia and over the years, my family and I have experienced how it affects not only the person who has been diagnosed, but their entire family too. More care, time and devotion is needed to help those diagnosed and their carers, to have a greater quality of life.

By becoming a Corporate Partner of Dementia UK, I am able to do just that for other families all over the U.K. Throghout 2018 I will be raising money for Dementia UK by taking part in the above charity events alongside friends.

What is Dementia?

"Dementia is an umbrella term used to describe a range of progressive neurological disorders, that is, conditions affecting the brain. There are many different types of dementia, of which Alzheimer’s disease is the most common. Some people may have a combination of types of dementia.  Regardless of which type is diagnosed, each person will experience their dementia in their own unique way." Dementia UK.

Dementia can effect many factors such as memory loss, cognitive ability and overall communication skills.

What does Dementia UK do?

Dementia UK provides specialist dementia support for families through their Admiral Nurse service.

When things get challenging or difficult for people with dementia and their families, Admiral Nurses work alongside them. They give the one-to-one support, guidance and practical solutions people need, and that can be hard to find elsewhere.

Admiral Nurses are continually trained, developed and supported by Dementia UK. Families that have their support have someone truly expert and caring by their side - helping them to live more positively with dementia in the present, and to face the challenges of tomorrow with more confidence and less fear.

Dementia UK believe that everyone who needs the support of a specialist dementia nurse should get one, and we’re working hard to increase the number of Admiral Nurses across the UK.
